'A' Level courses
are now structured on a modular basis
with students doing possibly 2 written papers
at the end of the lower sixth (Year 12) and completing
the final paper(s) in the upper sixth (Year 13.)
AS level can
be regarded as an examination in itself or in
some instances may be an integral part of an 'A'
Level syllabus.
It is extremely important that students
who wish to study at sixth form level agree their
programmes with the Head of Secondary School in the first instance.
It may be possible initially in Year 12 to follow
a mixture of courses which may involve retakes
of IGCSE/GCSE examinations provided the student
follows a balanced programme of study.
N.B. Pending authorization from the International Baccalaureate Organisation, we hope to replace A Levels with the I.B. Diploma as from September 2009.
