John Zermani: B.A., P.G.C.E.: Head of Primary.  John is a graduate of The Faculty of Art and Design at Liverpool Polytechnic and gained his P.G.C.E at Goldsmith¡¯s College, University of London. After initially working in The British School in Cairo he has most recently been Deputy Director of Satit Bilingual School, Thailand.  He is currently working for a Masters degree in Bilingual Education.  John is married with two children.


Wendy Durham: B.A., P.G.C.E.: Foundation Stage Coordinator, Reception A teacher. Wendy comes to us from Glendower Prep School in London. She has considerable experience of working abroad in the Middle East and in Africa. She has interests in Art and in travel.


Georgina Scott: B.Sc., P.G.C.E: Nursery teacher. Georgina¡¯s degree was in Marine Biology with Ocean Science and after a brief career in the commercial and industrial field she did her P.G.C.E. at the University of Exeter. She taught initially in the UK but has most recently been working at Academia Numero Uno in Granada, Spain. She is a keen sportswoman and assisted in developing school sports whilst working in Devon. She also says she plays the flute¡­.but ¡°not very well !¡±


Danny Wang: M.A., B.A., P.G.C.E.: Reception B Teacher. Danny has spent her teenage and adult years living and studying in New Zealand where she gained her Masters Degree at Victoria University. She has taught in primary schools in Wellington, New Zealand, before returning to China and she has been working at SRIS on supply teaching since her return to China. She is interested in photography and enjoys playing the guitar and singing.


Clare Boyden: B.Ed.: Key Stage 1 Coordinator and Primary Year 1 Teacher. Claire is a graduate of Cambridge University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Swimming Teachers and Coaches. Initially she taught at a Junior School in Essex but has most recently been a class teacher and PE coordinator for KS 1 and 2 at Ipswich High School. She enjoys travelling and is a great outdoors person engaging in windsurfing and scuba diving.


Emma Jane Tilly: M.A., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 1 Teacher. A graduate of the University of Glasgow, Emma-Jane went on to get her teaching qualification at the University of Plymouth. She has been teaching at Welldon Park First School, Harrow and is keen on swimming, squash and yoga.


Russel Tilly: B.Ed. (Hons): Primary Year 1 Teacher. A graduate of the University of Hertfordshire, Russel has been working at Dr Tripletts CoE Primary School in Middlesex where has has helped developed the Art and Numeracy strategies. He is a keen world-wide traveller and is an active squash and tennis player.


Niki-Elise Tindal: M.A., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 2 teacher.  Niki is a graduate of St Andrew's University and gained her PGCE at the University of Warwick.  She has worked most recently as a residential assistant housemistress at Pipers Corner School, Buckinghamshire and has had a variety of experience as a camp counsellor and teacher in the USA and teaching in the English International School, Padua, Italy.  She is very keen on sport and holds lifeguard qualifications and she also enjoys ballet.


Rachael Sibley: B.Sc., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 2 teacher. Rachael is currently Head of Stoke Brueme CoE Primary School in Northampton. She is keen on craftwork and enjoys travel and films.


Marie Badewa: B.A., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 2 teacher. Marie graduated from the City of London University and gained her P.G.C.E. for North London University specialising in multi-cultural education. She has been teaching in London and held posts of responsibility including those of Science Coordinator and Educational Visits Coordinator. She is keen to offer her variety of talents to the Activities programme where she hoeps to run an African Drumming Club as she has successfully done in the U.K.


June Foley: B.Ed.: Primary Year 2 teacher . June gained her original teaching qualification from Manchester College of Education and retrained for Primary Teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University. She had a career in industry and commerce before going into education and has been teaching for the past five years at Braeburn School, Nairobi. She describes herself as sporting and artistic and intends to use these talents in the Activities programme.


Lindsay Strickland: B.Ed.: Primary Year 2 teacher. Lindsay is currently teaching at Ranvilles Junior School, Hampshire. She is keen on developing multi-skills programmes for students and has a wide range of sporting interests including dance.


Susan Turner: B.T.E.C., B.A., P.G.C.E: Key Stage 2 Coordinator and Primary Year 5 teacher. Susan is a Graduate of University College, London and subsequently gained her P.G.C.E. at Nottingham University. She is currently teaching at Holbrook Primary School, West Sussex, where she has responsibility for History and for organizing and running the school council. Her interests are mainly artistic and she is a fluent German speaker having herself been a student at Grundschule, Bonn, Germany !


Mark Stringfellow: B.A. (Ed): Primary Year 3 teacher. A graduate of Canterbury Christ Church College with specialisms in History and ICT, Mark initially taught in and around Watford, Herts, before moving to The British International School of Jeddah. He returned to teach at Bradfield Junior School, Hemel Hempstead, in January 2004 but now wants to teach abroad again. He has held responsibility posts with regard to Maths, History and ICT in Key Stage 2. He is interested in football and enjoys music.


Joseph Dent: B.A., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 3 teacher. A graduate of Hull University, Joseph gained his P.G.C.E. at Sunderland University and taught initially in the U.K. before going to work in the British International School in Moscow where he has been for the last two years. He enjoys sport, especially coaching soccer.


Janice Kilmurray: B.Ed., T.E.F.L. cert.: Primary Year 3 teacher. Janice is a graduate of Dundee University and has been teaching for Fife Council Education Service in Scotland. She is keen on gymnastics and will be brining her young family to Shanghai and they are all looking forward to attending the school !


Linda Christy: M.A., B.A., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 3 teacher. After completing her masters in Language Arts, Linda has worked abroad in Kuwait and Spain. Her P.G.C.E. is in Primary and Special needs and she has had a range of teaching experience in Primary.  Before moving to Shanghai, she was living and working in Spain. Linda enjoys a variety of sports.


Kate McLeod: B.Sc.: Primary Year 4 teacher. Kate has taught at The Ferrers School, Northamptonshire and is a graduate of Nottingham Trent University. She has spcialised in electronics and Computer Aided Design work. She enjoys photography and snowboarding !


Ann-Marie Brown B.Ed. P.G.C.E., T.E.F.L. Cert.: Primary Year 4 teacher: Ann is a native of the North East of England and her qualifications have also been gained on Teeside.   After initially working in Hartlepool, Ann moved abroad and has held positions in Germany and most recently in Thailand.  She has been actively involved in her schools in drama productions and sporting events.


Len Collins: M.A., B.Ed.,T.E.F.L.: Primary Year 4 teacher. Len is coming to us from Wales having recently returned there from work in Qatar and before that other experience abroad in Poland and Spain. He is a keen golfer and chess enthusiast and is looking forward to resurrecting chess in the activities programme at SRIS.


Darren Sibley: B.Ed.: Primary Year 4 teacher. Darren is currently Head of Spratton CofE Primary School in Northampton and his main area of teaching is in the sciences. He is a keen sports enthusiast and is an active rugby player for Old Northamptions. He enjoys travel and reading Sci Fi.


Rebecca McDonald: B.A., Q.T.S.: Primary Year 5 teacher. Primary Humanities Coordinator. Rebecca is a graduate of John Moores University, Liverpool, and her area of specialism is in English. She has been teaching for the past two years at Boston Tower Road Primary School, Boston, and apart from her classroom commitment there has also been involved with the school basketball club and running various school trips. She is a qualified netball coach and before attending university, spent her gap year travelling in Australia and working in America and Italy.


Mark Scott: B.A., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 5 teacher. A graduate of Essex University and subsequently trained at Moray House (Edinburgh University), Mark has worked both in primary schools in Scotland and in Japan, and Dali Medical College (Yunnan). He has experience as a youth worker in Dunfermline (Scotland) and has specialist qualifications in Art and Design. Mark has also worked with children who have special educational needs.


Matthew Chapillon: M.A., B.A., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 5 teacher. After gaining his initial degree in Mandarin and Japanese from Durham University and doing a Masters in the International University of Japan, Matthew gained a degree in Literature through the Open University and completed his P.G.C.E at King¡¯s College, University of London. After working in the field of banking, he has subsequently held teaching positions in the U.K. in Norfolk, London and Somerset. Outdoor pursuits best describes Matthew¡¯s interests !


Louise King: M.A., P.G.C.E.: Primary Year 6 teacher, Primary English and Drama Coordinator. Louise graduated from Dundee University and subsequently from that fine educational institution, Moray House, in Edinburgh. She taught initially in Scotland but most recently has been teaching at Prospect House Independent School, London. She is a very keen amateur actress and has also completed Keynote education courses in Drama and Geography.


Zoe Atkins: B.Sc. Q.T.S.: Primary Year 6 teacher. A graduate of the University of Wales. After a brief career in business, Zoe went into teaching and for the past two years has been teaching at Bedgrove Junior School, Buckinghamshire, where she has been the Primary History coordinator. She is a fluent linguist and enjoys drama and has gained LAMDA drama and speech exams to gold medal standard.


Paul Gonsalves: B.Ed.: Primary Year 6 teacher. Paul is a teaching graduate from The University of the West of England, Bristol, with his main area of expertise being Design and Technology. He previously taught in schools in Bristol where he also worked as and Adult Education Tutor and a Youth Worker. His most recent school was The International Community School, Amman, Jordan. Among his hobbies and interests he lists circus skills and educational song writing.


Primary Specialist Teachers


Christopher Brown: B.Ed.: Primary P.E./Games teacher, Primary and Secondary. Christopher is a graduate of the University of Paisley and has worked in schools in Scotland and also been a community youth leader with Ayrshire County Council. He has also done youth work with The Boys Brigade and taken part in an aid trip to Romania. He has many sports qualifications including coaching awards in rugby and football. His own interests are sporting but he also enjoys playing the piano.


Paul Horstead: B.Ed.: PE and Swimming Instructor. Paul is a graduate of St Mary¡¯s University, Twickenham and he has recently been teaching at Hackbridge Primary School, Sutton. He has taken part in Camp America on 4 occasions and he has coaching qualifications in tennis, gymnastics and is an ACA Club cricket umpire. His interests are mainly sporting.


Sara Howe: B.A. T.E.F.L. (Advanced). Head of English as Another Language (E.A.L). Sarah is a Geography graduate from Exeter University and has gained her teaching qualification from Aston University. Currently she is teaching at The Winston Spencer Churchill School in Mexico. Her interests are mainly sporting and she is also a qualified first aider.


Robert Bounous : M.Sc., B.A., RSA Celta. E.A.L. Teacher. A graduate of The University of Greenwich, London, Robert has plied his language teaching trade in China teaching a wide range of age groups and also teaching business English backed up by his Business Administration degree. He has recently been working at Shanghai Korean International School.


Carmen Amerstorfer: MEd(TESOL), Dipl-Pad.: EAL TeacherEAL Teacher. Carmen is a graduate of Edinburgh University who started putting her theoretical knowledge into practice as an English teacher and course co-ordinator at Maastricht University (Netherlands). Most recently she has worked at an international school in Shanghai. Having taught English to students of all ages and of different cultural backgrounds, she has become an open-minded teacher, who adapts her teaching methods to different situations focusing on students¡¯ needs and abilities. Besides foreign languages her interests include travelling, sports and music.


Greta Ickx: M.A. T. Cert. Dutch Programme administration and teacher. Greta graduated from the University of Leuven and holds a Primary school teaching certificate. She has also studied and is qualified in oral and written Chinese from East China Normal University. She has taught in Primary schools in Holland and most recently has worked at De Oranje Draak School. Her interests include classical ballet and dance and she is also a pianist


Julie Yorke: B.Mus, N.P.D.A., L.L.C.M.: Primary Music Teacher. Julie is a graduate of the London College of Music and holds a National Diploma in Performing Arts from Stoke on Trent College. Her initial teaching was in the London College of Music Junior School and subsequently a London Prep School before she took up teaching in Jakarta, Indonesia. Julie is a talented all-round instrumentalist and is looking forward to bringing and sharing her musical expertise to and with the students at SRIS.


Gabriele Meirano: B.A., ABRSM Teaching Cert.: Music Administration (individual music tuition programme) and Piano Teacher. Gabriel will be joining us to organise the peripatetic music service and to be our main school piano teacher for private tuition.  Currently he is teaching for the Soundstep Music School in London for whom he tutors keyboard work to primary and middle school students throughout the city.  He is also an experienced modern jazz pianist and has performed at many London venues.


Maggie Zhang: B.A.:  Music Classroom Assistant.  Maggie initially worked in the Foundation Section of the school but her musical talents (she studied Music Education at Shanghai Teachers¡¯ University) is now being put to good use as she assists Ms Julie Yorke in the Primary Music Department.  Her presence will enable all Primary Students now to benefit from qualified teacher tuition.  Maggie plays the flute in the school orchestra and is also accomplished singer and pianist.


Mandarin Teachers and Classroom Assistants


Rosy He: B.A. Head of Lower School Mandarin. Graduate of East China Normal University majoring in Early Childhood Learning. Eight years experience working with children of various ages in local and international kindergartens where she received the outstanding teacher award four times.


Helen Zhang: B.A. Primary Mandarin teacher. Graduate of East China Normal University specializing in Education and Psychology. Worked at Shanghai Huyuan Kindergarten and Kinderworld before joining Rego.


Anny Zhu: B.A. Primary Mandarin teacher. Graduate of Shanghai University specializing in Chinese Language and Literature and also teacher training for Chinese as a Foreign Language. Most recently worked at The Omega Institute as a Mandarin teacher.


Ring Mei: B.A. Primary Mandarin teacher. Graduate of East China Normal University where she majored in English. Has spent five years teaching in a local Primary School.


Grace Feng: B.A. Primary Mandarin teacher. Grace has a Diploma in Primary School Education from Shanghai Teachers¡¯ University and a Diploma in Business gained from studying for two years at The Unitec Institute of Technology, New Zealand. She is returning to teaching after her studies in New Zealand having last taught at Shanghai Zunyi Primary School, where apart from language work she taught Music and was also a Team Leader in the Music Department.


Eva Xu: B.A. Primary Mandarin Teacher. Graduate of East China Normal University before joining Rego she had three years teaching English Language at local schools.


Penny Peng: B.A. Classroom Assistant Nursery: Penny is a graduate in Physics from Shanghai Normal University and has an English Language qualification from Canilx Modern English School. She has worked in the field of commerce but has also worked at Jin Yang Neighbourhood Kindergarten and she is looking forward to joining SRIS as a Reception classroom assistant and renewing her work with young children.


Arlene Huang: Dip Business English: Classroom Assistant RCA. Arlene studied at Shanghai Marketing International Business College and has been working as a teaching assistant at Shanghai Sunflower Montessori School after a brief period in the field of commerce including work at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. She joins SRIS as a classroom assistant in the Nursery class (Foundation Stage.)


Felicia Yang: B.A. Classroom Assistant RCB: Xiaoyang is a graduate in Psychology and Teaching from the East of China Normal University. She has been working at Shanghai Changning Kindergarten and will be joining SRIS as a classroom assistant in the Reception class (Foundation Stage.)


Sophia Li: B.A., Cert Ed.: Classroom Assistant RCA/B. Sophia is a graduate of Shanghai Normal University and since qualifying has worked in local schools. Because of her qualifications in psychology she has worked with special needs students. Her interests are in sport and reading.


May Ye: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y1A. Graduate of Shanghai Tourism Vocational School majoring in English. Has taught at Tin Tots Kindergarten and Ren Heng Kindergarten and pre-school before joining SRIS.


Vivian Wu: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y1B. Vivian graduated from East China Normal University, majoring in Early Childhood education.  She has worked at Kinderworld International Kindergarten for two years.


Lala Jiang: Cert Ed. Classroom Assistant Y1C. Lala studied at the East China Normal Teacher¡¯s college and has been teaching locally for 8 years. Initially working at a Chinese school her most recent experience has been at a local Kindergarten. She has qualifications in ballet and music.


Joanna He: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y2A. Graduate of Shanghai Finance and Economics University with experience in working in publishing and as a private tutor of Mandarin.


Jane Zhou: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y2B. Graduate of East China Normal University majoring in Early Childhood Learning. First level teacher¡¯s certificate granted by the National Ministry of Education. Worked in Shanghai International Kindergarten before joining Rego.


Daisy Tian: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y2C: Daisy is a graduate of Shanghai International Studies University. She has worked as a Education Counselor Assistant at Shanghai Haiyi Education Group and also at Shanghai Shangde School where she taught Mandarin and English. She joins SRIS as a classroom assistant in Key Stage Year 1, year 1.


Jane Zhang: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y2D. Graduate of Shanghai East Normal University specializing in English and Education. Jane has also studied nursing and has most recently been working at Kinderworld International Kindergarten.


Catherine Sui: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y2E. Catherine has taught in local schools as an English teacher having graduated from Shenyang Normal University. She is interested in aerobics and has won competitions in that sport !


Jessica Wang: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y3A. Jessica graduated from Huadong Normal University and has previously worked at Donggou Kindergarten in Shanghai.


Michelle Chen: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y3B. Michelle has studied at Anhui BengBu Radio and TV University where she graduated in English. She also completed further studies at Shanghai International Studies University. She has worked for the QunLun International Education company as a teacher and translator.


Chenyu Li (Lucia) B.A. Classroom Assistant Y3C. Lucia was educated at East China Normal University where she graduated in International Chinese Studies. Lucia has worked as an English tutor and also at an International school summer camp as well as being involved with the recent Shanghai Film and Television Centre. She is looking forward to working in an International school environment.


Amy Gao: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y3D. Graduate of Shanghai Teachers University where she studied English Literature. Amy has been working as a translator and Chinese instructor with Englishtown Information Technology. Currently studying German and completing a course on English - Chinese interpretation.


Tina Chen: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y4A. Graduate of East China Normal University majoring in Early Childhood Learning. Granted first level teacher¡¯s certificate by the National Ministry of Education and worked in Shanghai JinMeng Kindergarten before joining SRIS.


Lisa Chen: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y4B. Graduate from Shanghai Normal University. Initially worked in commerce but then worked as a private tutor to young children teaching them Mandarin. Joined Rego to develop her work in an international school context.


Christine Liu: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y4C. Educated at Shanghai Tourism Vocational School majoring in English. Taught at Tiny Tots pre-school and Kindergarten before coming to SRIS.


Vivian Bai: B.A. Classroom Assistant Y4D. Graduate of East China Normal University specializing in English. Vivian used to work at the No 2 Middle School in Shanghai as an English Teacher.
