Academic Results for 2005-6
It is always important to put examinations results in context and offer comparisons where appropriate. Parents may be interested in the following:-
[I]GCSE UK Results 57.1% of students taking these examinations passed with 5 or more subjects graded A* to C (i.e. pass grades.)
[I]GCSE SRIS results 87.5% of students taking these examinations passed with 5 or more subjects graded A* to C (i.e. pass grades.) i.e. we are producing results 30.4% above the national UK average!
Achieving 5 or more passes at [I]GCSE is regarded as an ideal foundation for students to continue with post 16 education to AS/A Levels or IB. Such results are also taken into account on forms for University admissions.
At 'A' Level our pass rate was 88.7%. This is only just outside the 90% average which is achieved by students at top Grammar Schools in the U.K. There are now very few Grammar Schools in the UK given that in the late sixties Comprehensive secondary education became the norm and the ones that have survived are highly selective with regard to intake, often recruiting only the top 3 – 8% of the ability level of students at aged 11 and educating them until 18. Other than 'selecting' in a limited sense on English written ability, SRIS certainly does not, and indeed, is not able to cream off the best students as Grammar Schools do so once again this reflects really well on our students and their work ethic and on the ability of our teachers.
At Key Stage 3 Our English Results were 17% above the UK National Average, our Maths results 26% above this average and our Science 14% above!
All of these results would certainly place us high up the league tables in any of the 104 Local Authorities in England in the U.K.
