Admissions Policy

All students will be tested in English before registration at the school.

1.        Foundation and Key Stage 1: Nursery, Foundation, Years 1 and 2 (Ages 3-7).

Students will be tested in English and also be invited to come to the school for a half day trial if possible. Whilst previous English knowledge is desirable in these years it is NOT an absolute requirement. E.A.L. department support is available for years 1 and 2

2.       Key Stage 2: Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (Ages 7-11)

Students will be tested in English and Mathematics. These tests will entail appropriate level questions in all language skill areas. The mathematics test will also be age appropriate for the year of entry. Previous knowledge of English will be needed to enter the school at this age. If a student is accepted with a low level of English they will be asked to enroll in the EAL programme here at the school.

3.       Key Stage 3: Years 7, 8 and 9 (Ages 11-14)

Students will be tested in English and Mathematics at the appropriate level for entry year. Any student entering the school at this age must have competent English which will allow them to access the full curriculum. If a student is accepted with a low level of English they may be asked to enroll in the EAL programme here at the school.

4.       Key stage 4: Years 10 and 11 (Ages 14-16)

Students will be tested in Mathematics and English. The level of English required for the GCSE/IGCSE courses is of a high standard and it is vital that students can access the curriculum in all areas. The two years of study for the GCSE/IGCSE programme lead to external examinations. As the courses are for two years it is highly unlikely that entrance into Year 11 will only be considered where subjects and syllabi in the previous school closely match the options available here at the school.

5.       Key Stage 5 Yrs 12 and 13 (Ages 16-18)

Students will be tested in English and Mathematics at a level equivalent to IGCSE. Any student wishing to move into Key Stage 5 at the school must have 5 A*-C passes at GCSE/IGCSE level which include English and Mathematics (or the equivalent from another system) further details are available in the KS5 handbook. There will also be an interview held with prospective students by the Head of Key Stage 5 at the school. New student entrance into Year 13 will only be considered if the student is moving from another IB school and has options matching those available at the school.

All students applying to the school will be asked to provide the last school report (or terminal reference) from their previous school if applicable.
